First established in 1901, the Woman’s Club of Pleasanton continues its mission of improving the community through volunteer service. Among one of their recent contributions is their donation of a water fountain at the pecan orchard trail at the Pleasanton River Park.

“Well of course, this couldn’t have been done without the donation of the Woman’s Club. They have been a blessing. They always are great donors for adding to our River Park,” said Justin Menchaca, City of Pleasanton Parks and Recreation Superintendent.

He and the club also expressed a big thank you to the Public Works Department and Parks Department for helping out in the installation and maintaining it.

“It wasn’t an easy project, but over time and through hoops and all that we were able to execute it and get it done,” added Menchaca.

He appreciates the partnership they have with the Woman’s Club and said they are always excited to work with them and add more to the park.

“And we love working with Justin. He has a lot of great visions for the park and for the walking trail,” said Melissa Royal of the Woman’s Club. “We have a lot of ladies that come and walk and so this was a great addition for the walking trail. We always enjoy driving and seeing all the activities at the park and we know that that’s Justin and his crew that’s making all this possible, so we like the activities and the involvement in the community. So that’s what we’re here for.”

Menchaca noted that it is important for the community to stay active. He loves to see all the dog walkers and others enjoying a day at the park.

“It’s great to see families come together, just indulge in nature and relax and get away from their daily struggles that they deal with and just be out here and enjoy themselves. So that’s been probably one of the biggest impacts that I’ve seen,” Menchaca said.

Royal finds joy in seeing families having picnics and get-togethers and children enjoy the Splash Pad.

“It’s peaceful. It’s nice and there is history behind this pecan orchard, too. It’s a hidden gem for Pleasanton,” said Menchaca.

The Woman’s Club and City of Pleasanton will be working together again to bring more additions.

“Hopefully benches and maybe a picnic table or something like that. So we’re not done,” said Royal.

Funding through the Woman’s Club of Pleasanton is made possible through their thrift store, which is open each Monday, at 321 N. Main St. in Pleasanton.

“We would like to thank all of the people who donate to us and then shop with us on Mondays because without those, we couldn’t do what we do,” said Royal. “So we appreciate everybody in the community who support us, that allows us to then support the community.”
