Another urban forest to be built on 200 acres of land on Karachi suburbs

Karachi: The Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) has built its first-ever artificial waterfall as an addition attraction to public recreational spots in the provincial capital.

The waterfall at Kidney Hill Park, which is also known as the highest point of Karachi, has been named after the former prime minister Benazir Bhutto.

The groundbreaking of the waterfall project was performed in March this year.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Karachi's Administrator Murtaza Wahab said the KMC utilised whatever limited financial and manpower resources it had to build the waterfall as a unique recreational area for the people of the city.

He appreciated the efforts of the workers and gardeners of the Parks and Horticulture Department of the KMC to complete the project in the shortest possible time.

He urged the citizens to fully own the new recreational facility to ensure its protection and maintenance so that in the future anti-social elements wouldn't be able to damage it.

He said the addition of a waterfall to Kidney Hill Park made the area worth visiting especially after sunset given its special illumination arrangements and walkways.

He told the audience earlier the same recreational site had been used to build the first-ever solar park in Karachi to produce clean electricity as an additional revenue source for the cash-strapped KMC.

Wahab said that earlier Kidney Hill Park had been rapidly transformed into an urban forest within just two years by planting around 150,000 plants and trees.

He said the extraordinary work by the KMC in this regard had conserved 62 acres of precious amenity area of the park, as otherwise, it could have fallen prey to the land grabbers in the city.

He announced that another urban forest would be built on 200 acres of land in the suburbs of Karachi.

The artificial waterfall built on a 200-feet area and has a height of 25 feet. Entry to the park is free.
