MARICOPA COUNTY, Ariz. - A community near Fountain Hills is on alert due to a wildfire burning in the area.

The Adams Fire has burned about 5,029 acres of land as of June 8. It is 91% contained. The fire sparked on Sunday.

"The proliferation of invasive species within the Tonto National Forest has contributed to heightened fire activity. Notably, Stinknet (Oncosiphon piluliferum), red brome (Bromus madritensis), and buffelgrass (Cenchrus ciliaris) have taken root in this ecosystem," read an update released by fire officials.

On Friday, fire officials said crews made progress on containing the fire on its south side.

"Firefighters will continue strengthening and mopping up control lines around the west side this weekend," read a portion of the statement.

The Goldfield Ranch Community north of Highway 87 has been put on "READY" status, according to the Maricopa County Department of Emergency Management.
